facade

Facade half done.  Not sure sure when they will render the bottom half?  Stairs are in and looking good.  Currently waiting on the tiling, painting and carpeting.  We should be in our new house in approx 9 weeks.  The countdown begins :).  Still no photos of the inside at this stage.

P.B

The plaster board is now on the walls and ceiling.  We have been told the stairs are going in tomorrow, which I am really looking forward to.  Not sure what the next step is after that, but at I  assume it will be painting.  We are still expecting a Feb/March move in date.

T.V Console

Rob & I have been searching for a TV console for a couple of weeks now.  We wanted it be Australian made but also at a reasonable price.  Today we finally found the one, and have put it on layby.  Sorry not the best quality photo!.

I put some lights on layby today also.
The first light to go in the upstairs rumpus room and the master bedroom.  The second light to go in the spare room and the boys bedrooms.  After building our first house and putting up with the dog bucket lighting shades, I could not bring myself to do that again.  These two lights are DIY's so won't need to pay an electrician to install them:).  Down stairs we have downlights so no crappy light fixtures to worry about here.

heat

Ducted heating going in today :).

Bamboo

Our new place is boardering a proposed school.   I started investigating different hedging plants to act as a barrier.   I decided Bamboo would be the best choice as it is not too wide taking up too much land.  Much to my dissappointment I discovered that Bamboo plants are very expensive and I have a lot of fence to cover.   Luckily I stumbled across bamboo seeds sold on ebay.

Before everyone freaks out I have selected a non-evasive variety - Borinda fungosa (syn. Fargesia fungosa) known as the Chocolate Bamboo.  It grows to 5 metres tall. 60 seeds for $30.  So much more affordable.

MMMM Mahogany

There is a shop in Elsternwick which is closing down.  They have some of the most gorgeous furniture and knick nacks.  The shop is close to where I do my monthly hypnotherapy course.  Each time I have been buying knick knacks here and there for the new house.  Last month I could not go past this mahogany chair which also converts into a step ladder.  Perfect to go in the master bedroom at the dressing table and when connverted into a step ladder we can have access to the top of our wardrobe.

But alas the next time I am due to do my course the store will have closed down (which Rob is quite happy about).

DIY Wall Art

I wanted some pictures to go above our bed head in our new house.  I had a look at a few, but the price really put me off.  So I decided to buy some canvases and material at my local craft store and make my own .

Using a staple gun I attached the material to the back of the canvas and
TA  DAA...

The beauty of this is when I hang these up, if they look crappy I can just swap it up to another material:).

P.S If you ever use a staple gun check that you use the right end because stapling your little finger is extremely painful and takes over a week to heal :(.

Stairwell Pendant Light

Today I put on layby our stairwell  pendant light .  Rob & I have been arguing discussing what we would like for a while now.  Yesterday we finally came to agree on the, Mercator Torino 12 pendant light fitting.   Ours will be more staggered and hanging a lot lower than shown in the picture below.  It will also be a smoky colour as opposed to the clear glass shown.
Cheers Lyndall

P.S Today the brackets are being attached ready for the hebel to be installed :)

Little Bits and Pieces

It has been a bit quiet at the house build in the last 4 days.  I did notice however, that the Hebel has been delivered to the site and a couple more windows have been put in.
I am trying to be patient, but it is so hard.  I just want to move into my new completed house NOW :).

Who's Your Daddy...

Okay I know this has absolutely nothing to do with our house build but I had to share...

I could not resist this Tshirt I found at Big W last night.
When I was pregnant with Luke, Rob & I could not agree on a boys name.
Then one day I was watching Star Wars when I said 'what about the name Luke?'
Which Rob replied
"Why not - then I can say 'Luke I am your Father' (done in best Darth Vader voice)"

The rest is History

1st floor frame went up the other day.  Our Site Supervisor has contacted us for our first site inspection.  Looking forward to that.

Frame

The ground floor frame is almost complete :).
When we saw the slab after the pour it looked so small.  So much so that we took down our tape measure to check that it was the right size (which it was).  Now the ground floor external and internal frames are almost complete it looks so much bigger.
Hopefully by the end of next week the first floor frame will be up also.

One step closer.

PVC pipes and things that bark.

We now have PVC pipes layed down.  I am assuming that they are for drainage and sewage?
Notice the tempory fencing on the ground.  We have had some quite strong winds (and rain) around here lately and a fair bit of our temp fencing is now laying on the ground.

I know that this dog is loved.  Why because I have just paid out over $300 for him at the vets, and this is only the beginning.
Unfortunately K.D has an eye problem which has severely effected his eye sight.  His eye ointment which for 3.5g costs $130.  Which he needs to have applied to his eyes twice a day for the rest of his life.  If this doesn't help him and his eyes continue to deteriorate and be inflamed he will need his eyeballs removed:(.
Like I said, just as well he is so loved or he would have ended up at the glue factory.

Posts, Dirt & Electricity

Visited our property today and happy to see that a temporary power box has been installed, some more digging has been done and some post/markers added.  Hopefully soon we will have the slab poured.

Fencing it in!

A new (minor development) to our build, they have placed temporary fencing around our property line.  What's really good about this is we get a better perspective on our property line rather than 4 short pegs sticking out of the ground.

Below is the basic shape of our property.

It is getting serious...

YOU  KNOW  THEY  ARE  GETTING  SERIOUS  ABOUT  BUILDING  WHEN
THE  PORTA  POTTY  ARRIVES. :)

Who would have thought that the delivery of a simple porta potty would make me feel all excited?

...and here is the excavator prepping the ground for the slab pour.

Selections

We have the official word, the construction on our house starts this Tuesday:).  We are so excited.

I thought I would finally get around to posting our colour selections.  We have gone for a neutral palette so the house does not date too much in the comming years.

One of my favourite tiles is the powder room splash back.  The tiles are made up of natural stone and I think look awesome.  I would have used it as a splash back for all the other wet areas but that tile was quite expensive:(.  Although picking colours is fun it is also painful all at the same time.  I really look forward to see how they look in our new house.

Cheers

In 40 minutes time Woodrow Court will no longer be ours.  The next step in our exciting new journey :).

Tuesday, June 26, 2012

It's official...
We settled on the land today :).  That means the land is ours  the banks.
It was this month 10 years ago we moved into our first home, Woodrow Court, Narre Warren. Zach was just 3 months old when we moved in.

Now 10 years later, we have sold the house we built and  now preparing to move out this weekend into a rental until our new house is built.

Now a walk down memory lane to old photos of our first home...
